Well, for an update I now no longer own Il Maledetto aka The Cursed aka Molly.
Last night a knock came on the door and I didn't really want to answer thinking it was Yvonne coming to thank me (his ebay item had arrived and I put it on his front porch.) I glance out the window and see it is Yvonne but with someone else, probably the person who wants to buy my car so I figure I should get it over with. So I go outside and have a chat. The friend, Rodrigo, doesn't speak English so Yvonne is translating. Rodrigo offers $400 for the car. Okay, I did not want to get into a haggling match. I hate that. Hate it. So at first I say, no. My original price was $800 and I already brought it down to $500. I didn't want to go any lower than that. "450?" "Okay, fine." What is fifty bucks to just get this over with? Go ahead and say it, I'm weak, I know.
"Oh can my friend borrow your plates for a couple of days in order to go the DMV and get registration and all that?"
In constrast to the previous post I honestly don't think anything bad would have happened had I let him. "Sure, that would fine." They go to get money. I inform Loralee of the deal. She is somewhat disappointed that backed down on the $50, but oh well. Then she tells me in no uncertain terms that I should not let them take my plates at all. I tend to listen to Loralee as if she is Gandhi so I go back and tell Yvonne a small lie. I use my mother (sorry Mom, but I'm sure you are okay with it).
"You know I just called my mom to tell her and she told me I had to get the plates since her name is associated with the car. She is a co-signer. So I have to get the plates."
While they are discussing I get the papers together. Yvonne does give me a piece of advice that I should prepare a bill of sale that says I am selling the car "as is" to cover my back. Which, I thought was kind of nice. I fill out my information and explain what info Rodrigo needs to fill out when he gets his registration and everything. I didn't have the title but just the lien release and the form that says I am transferring ownership. Got the plates, got the money and we're good to go. I hope that everything was good and everything works out for him as well as me. I'm glad it's over, though there is a remnant of an icky feeling like I was taken advantage of. I probably wasn't but I've never sold a car before and I don't know if I could have gotten more from someone else. I tend to rush into things because they are easy. This was relatively easy.
Yvonne did ask me about dinner again but I told him flat out no. "What am I too ugly or something?" "No, but it would just be so awkward. What would we talk about?" "Well, it's not a date." "Yeah, but still you don't want to have an awkward meal. I don't. Besides you helped me sell my car. We are even. If you really feel like you need to still thank me you can bring me a treat or dessert or something."
I hope that was the end of it. Though apparently there was crack in the ebay item he purchased so he asked me to contact the seller about it. I didn't know what to say so I came up with something. I don't know what Yvonne expects me to do about it. Not much more that is for sure.

I'm glad you were finally able to sell your car. Hopefully this will mean you won't have as many encounters with Yvonne. :)
"as is" was a good idea. so was not giving him your plates. You just never know when that will bite you. and Yvonne does not sound like he has non-creepy "friends". You friends were looking out for you.
I am proud of you for telling him no when he asked you to dinner. Especially when he tried to pull out the guilt-trip/pity with the ugly comment.
You rock.
So glad the car is gone. I like the "as is" advice as well. So maybe he's not so bad. Did you get the bill of sale signed so I can cancel the insurance?? And it wasn't really a lie about using me. I certainly would have told you to keep the plates. So what is the Buick's name?
Thanks Cardine. Hopefully, my dealings are back to a hi and goodbye relationship. Though apparently he doesn't really understand the whole lien release concept. I didn't actually have the title but the lien release and I don't think he liked that but he dealt with it.
I don't know. Probably "old girl" because it seems to make a lot creaky noises.
Why can't he contact the seller about the crack? He should be able to contact the seller even if he doesn't have a credit card.
Glad you said no to the date.
