Last week I was in France...

Last week I decided to listen to just one artist on my Ipod which is unusual for me since I am almost always in shuffle and skip mode. All day Saturday, I was listening to Edith Piaf, the french singer from the '40s. I love her voice so much. The next morning I to had to be at church early for a meeting (7:45). Normally, I would turn my radio to the "Soft Sounds of Sunday" to get me into a spiritual mood but I figured Edith's lovely voice would be just as fulfilling, even though she could be saying any number of vile things (I doubt it, her songs are too beautiful) and I wouldn't know it. Did I mention all her songs are sung in French? It was at the point in the morning where the sky is somewhat gray because the sun hasn't fully come out yet, definitely a sign of Fall. I was driving north on 900 east and while listening to Edith I imagined that I was driving in France on some road in a small city like I had seen on my visit last year (around this same time). There was a man on bike with a cart making a delivery of some kind and the trees lined both sides of the road. There weren't that many people on the road which added to the effect of my fantasy. I realize that Salt Lake is a far cry from France but at that moment I felt it and it was so wonderful.

This week I tried to recreate the effect by listening to Josh Groban sing Italian but it wasn't the same. It was later in the morning so the sun was up, Josh isn't really Italian and I had too much on my mind like going through every detail of the mingle I was planning for after church. I was a little sad and then realized that beautiful moments should be cherished and then filed into memory somewhere. Easier said then done.

Speaking of France, a girl at church had this little conversation with my roommate Loralee yesterday.

Girl: It's so nice of you to let Cassie borrow your necklace to wear.
Loralee: (in confusion) What? (then she looks over to where I am standing afar off)
Loralee: That's not my necklace, that's Cassie's.
Girl: Oh, I just thought it was something you would wear.

The necklace was the one I bought for myself in Paris, I was going to post a picture and then I forgot. Some of you have seen it. Is it wrong that I was a little offended?

Cassie, I loved reading this post! It is such a lovely thought. I think this is the very reason people travel. Bringing a bit of the amazing into everyday life. I agree it isn't something you can create, sometimes your just swept away!
As for the girl commenting on your neckless, I would be offened, but you know me. I'm a little touchy. When I read that part I couldn't help but think,'What the hell?'Your wearing a necklace, why would anyone assume it wasn't yours. Crazy!

I'm with you and Kays. I would be totally offended. As if you need Loralee's generous charity so you can accessorize. Duh.

I often travel in books rather than music. But the past few weeks I have used music to go back to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia on several occasions.

Where on earth did you find music from a 40's era French singer?

I would love to hear that music. It sounds wonderful. This really is a beautiful post.

As for the necklace story, I would probably be offended. Especially since you wear so many great necklaces.

Candleman, Lime Wire of course!!

Cassie, that experience last Sunday sounds wonderful. Isn't great when those things happen unexpectedly. In fact, they almost always happen unexpectedly, because if you're expecting them they probably won't happen.

The comment about the necklace does sound rude, but maybe she wasn't meaning it rude. She probably wasn't saying that you don't have style; just that that particular necklace looked like Loralee's style. IDK, but I do know that you do have style.

I don't think she was being rude or anything. I wasn't even around, the conversation was relayed to me by Loralee and her boyfriend. Loralee thought it was weird too. She was trying to give Loralee a compliment but it didn't turn out so well.
I love it when people give me the okay to be offended.

To be fair this girl knows Loralee a little better than she knows me and I sometimes don't wear jewelry all that often but Loralee does.

Candleman: I first Edith Piaf at a ballet review that I attended and fell in love with her there and then a friend of mine was listening to her and I found out her name and soon there after I bought a c.d. from BMG. I'm sure you might be able to find some Itunes as well.

Well, this is a weird situation. Which is worse: the girl saying that about the necklace or people telling you that the girl said that about the necklace?

It's a toss up for me.

Well, Cardine I don't think Loralee would have told me necessarily but her boyfriend brought it up because he thought it was funny. He just walked up to me and said "Hey Cassie that's a nice necklace. It sure is nice that Loralee let you borrow it." Then he started giggling and so Loralee felt the need to explain. He's a little idiotic.

Okay, that context makes a lot more sense. Idiotic boyfriend. I was trying to imagine why in the world anyone would tell you that otherwise.

There are some experiences that I've had when a person tells me something that someone else said about me, and I didn't appreciate hearing it.
