We decorated our first cake in class on Saturday. Being a perfectionist I didn't finish and had to finish at home. The night before I made my cake (vanilla from a box) and then made tons of icing. I iced the cake trying to get it as smooth as possible but it just wouldn't get perfectly smooth but it was still pretty good (I would go to say the smoothest in the class.) But it took a while to get it there. Julie and Alyson were good sports to watch me while I did it and made all the icing (they liked to taste test the icing as well). I was pretty exhausted by the time I was done. Then I stayed up talking until 4:00 but it wasn't hard to wake up the next morning to get ready for class. Taking the cake to class was worrisome. I was ever watchful to make sure it didn't slide around but on a few turns I had to rescue it and so I put a couple small dents in the icing but oh well.
We practiced making stars, rose bases, and writing. The teacher came and looked at my progress from time to time but not very often. She told me later that if I felt she was neglecting me it was only because she felt like I was really getting it and didn't need as much help but be sure to let her know if I needed any. I'm a star student! Okay here is the picture.
The reason it's a rainbow is because we needed to practice pattern tranfers and so she wanted some of us to do the rainbow that was provided in our book. My writing needs a little work but I'll just have to practice. It tasted pretty good too.

I'm a pie man myself, but you just might persuade me to switch! It looks great!
Now if I can get you to bake me a dark dark chocolate one with cherries mixed in (you can decorate it anyway you like)- I'll be right over!
I'm impressed. I know my first decorated cake didn't look anywhere near as good. I thought your writing turned out really well. In fact, before I read anything and just looked at the pictures, I thought how nice the writing looked. Good job on the rainbow and clouds. Glad you are keeping us abreast of your progress.
too cool!
The cake looks great and it's a lovely sentiment. Good thing it wasn't chocolate or I would really feel bad for not getting a piece. I feel bad that I didn't get to see you all this weekend. But I'm definitely coming out for the book fair. Hopefully Alyson and Julie will be attending as well.
It is a lovely cake, and it tasted great. I'm glad I was there for the taste tests.
It was really fun spending the weekend with you and Julie. Thanks for letting us crash at your place, and thanks for being our stylist. That was a nice treat!
beautiful! Good job Miss Cassie!
Not only did it look good, it also tasted great!! I'm glad I got to watch you decorate it and that I got to eat a bit of it. :)
It was fun hanging out with you and Aly. I second Aly's thanks for letting us crash at your house AND for doing my hair! It was heavenly and I really liked how it looked. You are so talented!
