So either I haven't had much to write about lately or I'm too depressed to write or a little of both. So I'll give you a brief summary of things going on in my life and thoughts.
-Losing weight is not my core desire. If it was then I would do it, nothing stops you from obtaining your core desire. I have no problem getting up and going to McDonalds to get food but I cannot get myself up to go for a walk or whatever. I don't know how you make something your core desire and this fact has depressed me a lot lately because I feel it is out of my hands and there is nothing I can do to lose weight, which I feel will make me feel better about myself and thus build more confidence in myself and more attractive.
-I just bought my very own standing mixer. It's not a Kitchenaid which I would have loved but something cheaper for the time being. I bought it mainly for my cake decorating class but I'm sure it will be handy in other areas as well.
-I have an idea for another cake but I probably won't do it because I don't have the time that I think I would need to do it and I probably don't have the skill set either. I'm still debating because it would be cute if it came out right. I'll post a picture if I do.
-This next one sort of negates the first one but not really. I've started to walk up the stairs in my building at work instead of taking the elevator. I only do three flights pretty much when I go to lunch but I figure every little bit helps. But my food and water intake is still not good. We'll see how this goes. Three flights can still get me breathing heavy. How the heck did I walk up all those stairs in Paris (Arc de Triomphe, up to Sacre Couer and Notre Dame)? Those had hundreds of steps. Yes I was twenty pounds lighter then but still I don't remember being all that fatigued (I'm sure I was but it was worth it.)
-I bought a whole bunch of candy to stick in this glass gallon jar that I bought a while ago and has been sitting empty on my counter. Loralee is not happy with me as she wants to lose weight too. Amazingly, I haven't been that tempted to gorge myself on it but that could be because I have other sources of sweetness.
-My mom's in town this weekend. I'm excited to see her. It's been forever it seems. Did I see her in August? Can't remember. I know it's been at least two months. Of course all she is really excited to see is the baby. I hope I get to see him too. Got to fill my once a month quota.
Well, I guess that is about it. Not very exciting, I know.

Damn You PBS! You Sucked Me In Again!
So last night after another lackadaisical day at work I went to my first cake decorating class for course 2. I gathered all my stuff though I had a feeling I was somewhat unprepared (I didn't make any icing). Luckily they sell that stuff ready made and though sometimes it wasn't the right consistency for what we were doing it worked fine.
While we were practicing the reverse shell, my teacher, Kristen, asks me "So your single right?" Impending setup attempt radar goes up. "Yes." "So, I don't remember why you said you wanted to learn cake decorating." "I just thought it would be fun." "Had you seen other cakes or knew someone who did cake decorating?" In my head, I'm thinking my mom used to decorate our birthday cakes but that was years and years ago and that wasn't really my drive. "Well, of course I've seen cakes here and there and in magazines. I just thought it would be a cool thing to know how to do." "Oh, had you seen dragon cake or something?" I'm wracking my brain, I'm sure I have seen a dragon cake before but again nothing to do with my wanting to take the class. And then the lightbulb went on. "Oh I know what you're talking about. The other teacher must have mentioned something about me." "Yes."
So there is another teacher who teaches cake decorating at Joanns. I have never met him. Kristen talked about him a little in our last course and how she had taught him and he was amazing and she was the one that told us he had done a dragon cake for his finale cake in course one. Well, I think later that week was my friend Sarah's birthday party who I made this cake for. Some friends of hers came over and we started talking and it was mentioned that I had done the cake and was taking a class at Joanns. It turns out they were friends with this Jason guy who is the other teacher. Actually one was his roommate. I said something about hearing about his dragon cake and that it was amazing and whatever. They told me about some of his other cakes. So I guess these two went and told him about the conversation and he asked if I was in Kristen's class and I guess he wondered if she had a picture of the dragon cake or something. He asked her like this: "Is there a single girl named Cassie in your class?" I'm actually amazed that these two remembered my name. I definitely don't remember their names or faces really. I don't even think I got their names.
"Well, you should take course 3 from him because he so amazing and really nice. He's one of those guys that is the nice guy and so most girls don't go for the nice guy." Aha! Here's the setup albeit in a round about way. "Well, maybe I will." I just think it is so funny how a little conversation can come around full circle. So Alyson, that was the story I wanted to tell you last night.
Getting home around 9:30, watched my recording of the results show for Dancing with the Stars, which normally I don't watch the results show because I don't care. I just like to watch the dancing. And because Wade Robson (of So You Think You Can Dance fame) was doing a routine that is why I tuned in this time and it was amazing!! Anyway, around 10:45 when I turned off my recording I was flipping channels and on PBS was one of my favorite shows, Are You Being Served. So I decided to watch the rest of it to see of it was funny (sometimes it's hit or miss) and it was so hilarious. When it was over, I went to wash my face to get ready for bed planning on watching my recording of Heroes and then falling asleep around midnight. When I got back there was a documentary on PBS and while I was getting ready I just listened in and then it became fascinating. I was completely drawn in. I layed down in bed with my pillow and head at the foot of the bed to watch and became completely immersed in the subject of Crossword Puzzles. Seriously it was a documentary about crossword puzzles, most importantly the New York Times crossword puzzles. How they are made and how fast people can solve them (under three minutes). There is a tournament every year and the end of the show was with this year's tournament. There were about five favorites for the win, one including a twenty year old. I was on the edge of my bed to see who would win. There was an upset by one guy who made it into the final three who had had to have made up an amazing lead to get there. The final puzzle the final three have to do are on big dry erase boards and they have music and headphones on to drown out any outside sound. They have fifteen minutes to complete the puzzle. You get points for your time and every correct letter or word. You lose points for error and blank spots. The upset guy finished first in about eight minutes. He said the word done and then when he looked back at his puzzle he saw two blank spaces. He was very upset. The twenty year old ended up winning (the youngest winner in history). He reminded me a lot of my cousin Jason. Some looks and mostly they way he said or phrased things. It was funny. Anyway I didn't get to sleep until around 1:00 am. Stupid, culturally diverse and informative PBS.

Oh Lackadaisical Me
Seriously, I have not had any interest in doing anything. Okay, not anything but this blog for one. I have ideas to post about but then I'm like "eh, it doesn't really matter." Even now it seems to be taking a lot of effort for me to type this out. If my arms and fingers were people they would be heaving breaths right now. I have to stop after typing a few words and rest and then start again. But I'll get through it just like I made it to the top of Mt. Timpanogas (heaving all the way).
So new things in the last two weeks don't seem like anything interesting but maybe you are interested. I became Melanie's tennis buddy. We bought rackets and everything. I know, why are we starting this when winter is descending upon us? Well, it's fun. I've wanted someone to play tennis with for a long time. I figured it would be the only enjoyable way for me to get exercise. I've never really played tennis before. The first time I picked up a racket in who knows how many years was just a couple months ago and I was terrible, but I was playing with a regular and he gave me some tips that have really come in handy. Melanie brought up the idea and I jumped on it. We've been twice now and it's really fun. We get a lot of running in (well I do because I force myself to run for the ball) because neither of us can hit the ball straight very often. I really like it. Hopefully, we can get a little more playtime in before it gets too cold. Then maybe we'll find somewhere indoors.
(small break in typing)
Work is hard for me because I can't seem to make myself care all that much about my job. I know I'm not doing my best and I hate that but not enough right now to fix it. Like I said, lackadaisical (I'm finding that I really like that word.)
And sshh, but I haven't taken a shower since Sunday. It takes too much effort. I plan to tonight though or tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.
I made cupcakes for my bookclub meeting this week. Mainly for the purpose of using up leftover icing from previous cakes. They turned out pretty cute I think and everyone seemed to like them.
Yesterday was my friend Melanie's birthday. Of course, I offered to make her cake. If you have seen the cover of Country Living, that is the cake I made. It's a chocolate pumpkin cake (made from scratch) wit
h a cinnamon cream cheese frosting and chocolate glaze. It was a little time consuming to make but oh it turned out so good. So moist and yummy.
So how do you think it compares in looks? I think I might make this for Thanksgiving this year.

Class 1 Finale Cake
This cake was fun to do only because I didn't have to be so perfect about the icing and stuff and it was just a whole bunch of dots. I donated this cake to the Relief Society Broadcast dinner, which I didn't attend so I don't know how it tasted. It was a strawberry cake, so I probably wouldn't have liked it anyway. I hope others did. I've already signed up for class 2 which starts in 2 weeks. luckily I won't have to make a cake for each class this time so I'll just do them on my own. I already have another birthday coming up and I'm going to do another one for my book club meeting just for fun. I'll take pictures of those too.

Worth the Trouble? For the Friends, Yes. For the Play, No
For my roommate's birthday in July I gave her her choice of seeing a play/musical playing in the area in the near future. She chose The Secret Garden playing at Hale Centre Theater. I ordered the tickets for myself, Loralee and my cousin Alyson (who wanted to join) a little over a month ago online. I saved the confirmation page, which I almost never do but I had a fear about ordering tickets online because I know it's a new thing for them. I should have just called but if I can do anything without contact with an actual human being then I go for it. Loralee's sister Melanie wanted to come with us and since she has a season pass ticket she needed to book her own. So I gave her the date and the seat she should ask for and she got it. So we were all set.
I was really excited when the day came, which was last Thursday. However, the day before I had talked to Alyson and she was really stressed about school and hinted at maybe not being able to make it. The next day she left a comment on this blog telling me she would let me know whether or not she would. I called her later where she confirmed that she just wasn't up for the drive and she still had assignments she needed to get done. I was disappointed but completely understood. So then I set about finding a replacement that according to Alyson would be free of charge since she backed out. I didn't think it would be so hard. I first called Carrie, thinking she would snatch it up but she wasn't comfortable with not paying for it and she didn't have the money at the time. Even after much insistence that she didn't need to pay for it she then said that she just wanted an early night. So I said okay and I would try someone else. Next Joni: out of town, Jeneil: no answer, Lacey (twice): no answer, Tonya: doesn't like the play, Lindsay: had plans. As I was about to call my last resort I got a text message from Carrie saying if I hadn't found anybody yet that she would go, with the understanding she would pay Alyson back later. Hooray!!! The Four Musketeers together again (that's what I call us). I gave a sigh of relief because I really didn't want the ticket to go to waste.
So we meet up at my house at the appointed time and head to the theater, stopping along the way for Melanie and Loralee to get a little snack. We arrived plenty early, like we usually do. Melanie and I head to the Will Call line to pick up the tickets. Melanie gets hers just fine and dandy but oh no they don't have mine. They look me up in the computer and show that I had purchased tickets for the 4:00 pm show not the 7:30 one. That couldn't be! I would never do that. They don't have matinees on Thursday. I swear I looked at that thing several times before I hit confirm, buy, place order or submit. I was handed over to the person dealing with people like me. She put me on the list for standby but I was worried because she said that the show had been sold out for months (why they had a matinee on Thursday).
Anyway I explained that there had been a mistake somewhere, not mine but maybe mine. I maintained my composure only because I wasn't sure I hadn't made a mistake (I knew I should have checked my confirmation page earlier). The lady was nice and said that we could watch the first little bit of the show on a monitor and then if there are available seats then we can be seated. Melanie went and took her seat (after a little grumbling of having to sit by herself, suck it up Mel. I had to do it when your family came to town.) As we watched others getting their tickets there was a couple talking to the lady that had talked to me. The man got very irate and yelled out to the crowd "This theater is being very difficult giving people their tickets!" I can't stand people who act like that. Mainly because you know that they are going to get their way over the nice people. Also, we felt really bad for the lady. It's not like it is her fault. I was definitely upset myself. This was supposed to be a birthday present and it wasn't turning out very well and if it was my fault then that was even worse, but I can't handle confrontation like that.
A few minutes later the lady came back (after seeing the upset couple receive tickets and go up the stairs to go in, what'd I tell ya) to talk to us. She said that they would have general admission seats that they don't sell so there was a good chance we would get in. Whew! She led us upstairs and we sat and watched the first five minutes of the show on a t.v. We were each given a card that would get us two free concession items at intermission. Alright!!
We were led in and we weren't all quite sitting together but close enough (and some ladies made arrangements at intermission to have all three of us sitting together for the rest. Melanie had to be all by her lonesome the whole time. She was in another section.
I'm glad it worked out. I was happy to spend time with my friends. Loralee was really nice and knew that I was getting upset because it was like I messed up her birthday present but she helped to calm me down. The show was alright. I enjoyed hearing a few of the songs I was familiar with but I was confused a lot. They seemed to focus more on the past of Archibald Craven and how he and his wife Lily got together then on the children and the garden. Very different then the movies I had seen that weren't musicals. Not my favorite.
p.s. I checked my confirmation page the next day and it did say 4:00. So it was my fault. But that is just something between you and me.
