Spontaneous Moab Trip
Wednesday, April 16, I received a text message from my friend Sarah which said, "Want to come to Moab and go hiking? We are leaving Friday night. Mel and Carrie are both in." In my mind I deconstructed the text to try to make my decision. Want to Come to Moab, sure, hiking? no. Mel and Carrie, nice. I had to really think about it. I hate hiking, almost loathe, despise even. It's painful, I feel embarrassed that people have to slow down for me and it's usually hot and I get a sunburn. Melanie instant messaged me the next day to see if I was going and I still hadn't decided but she said she really wanted me to come and that's always nice to hear and who am I to disappoint. But that hiking thing still had me hesitating. But there is one thing and most of my friends know this about me, that will get me to go hiking do some other activity that I'm not too keen on. That is the fact that I hate not being apart of things. They go on a trip and experience things together and bond and I hate missing out on that bonding and then they have stories to tell over and over again that I can't be apart of. I really hate that and so it was that alone that pushed me to go.
And lo and behold I did have fun. Still not so much the hiking but even that was okay. We hiked to Delicate Arch which was amazing to see and then a bunch of other smaller arches with small trails. The wind was blowing so it wasn't too hot. I was taking lots of pictures and had brought along my video camera by request so I made other people carry it but got some fun footage. We had some little adventures along the way as well.
Sarah got pulled over outside of Provo for following another vehicle too closely. She got a warning for that but she did get a citation for not have having her car registered in Utah even though she's lived here for about two years. She was not happy. Then outside of Price or maybe Green River we see another car that has been pulled over so Sarah goes to change to the left lane and as she does we see a big freshly killed deer carcass in the middle of the road and Sarah seems to be heading right for it. Luckily, she was quick to maneuver and only one side went over it but it could have been bad and the next morning we were greeted with deer guts all over her car. While in Arches, Mel and I had to struggle to keep our hats on our heads with the strong winds and almost lost them from time to time.
Funnest Moments:
-Singing together on the drive. Especially to the Celine Dion's and Barbara Streisand's "Tell Him" I couldn't help busting up laughing how dramatic they sing it. I had never really noticed it before.
-Tired laughing with Mel on the way home. "Here, Mel, you wanna see?" Oh man that was funny.
-Dinner at Zak's restaurant. They have great pizza.
-Playing Fish, Old Maid and Crazy Eights with the girls on the drive.
Not so Fun Moments:
-Getting Sand whipped by the wind.
-Nobody really getting any sleep because I was snoring and then they would wake me with their loud headphones music or just plain wake me up to stop the snoring plus uncomfortable beds.
Overall I think it was a great trip and I'm glad I went even though I think some of it contributed to my week of depression, which of course was no one's fault but my own (and with a little contribution from Julie, just kidding.) Thanks for your comments as well. I'm going better today and I'm gonna hang out in Aly's hotel room in Park City to kind of get away.

I'm glad you had fun on the trip. You look like you're losing weight. You look good!
I'll know on Monday hopefully. Keeping my fingers crossed!
That sounded fun. You'll be glad you did when you look back on it. So what's up with you and Jordan not liking to hike?
I hope that your trip had the opposite effect and being out in the warm fresh air helped you not be depressed! Love you, stacey and lincoln.
You got some great pictures! It looks like a really fun trip, and I'm glad the hiking wasn't too bad.
I have to say that you really don't snore too bad...maybe you had a bit of a cold that weekend. In Park City, I actually fell asleep after you, and I only know this because you did snore a little. I think it was only because you were sitting up slightly when you fell asleep. When I woke up, I laid in bed for 20 minutes or so, and you weren't snoring a bit...or even breathing heavy.
I hope the weekend in Park City helped your mood. I was so glad you came, and only wish we could have spent more time together.
Very nice! I'm so glad my ugly mug made it to your blog page!
Just so you know you were almost in Fruita! So now you see it isn't much of a drive! Now you can come see me! Come on Cassie, you know you want to. Winter is over now, so the roads aren't bad. You'll have fun. I promise.
I hope your trip cheered you up a little. You are looking beautiful as always.
