Phone conversation with Loralee yesterday (might be somewhat paraphrased):
everything in parentheses is an aside to you
Loralee: "So I've been reading your blog today. Why have you been so depressed lately?"
Me: "Oh, well that's an old post, and forever ago. (doesn't it feel like that once you finally come out of a depression"
Loralee: "No, that was only like two weeks ago."
Me: "Well, you know just the usual stuff, and the snoring stuff from Moab kind of set off along with being discouraged about not losing weight after working out all that week and such."
Loralee: "Yeah, I could see how that could get you down. You know I've heard that if you lose weight then it could decrease your snoring."
Me: "Easier said than done."
Loralee: "Well, yes but it would be like killing two birds with one stone."
Me: "Well, I'm sure I'll try again, someday."
Later that day, Loralee, Melanie and I went for a walk around Sugar House Park. As we are walking Loralee voices her bright idea.
Loralee: "Cassie, I think what you need to do is to eat five small meals a day and then that will jump start your metabolism. I need motivation to get up early. So what if you and I cook breakfast together before you go to work and then that will jump start you for the day and we can chat and spend time together. What do you say?"
(Some hesitation)
Cassie: "Well, yeah that could be nice. There's just the problem that I don't like two of the three aspects of this plan."
Loralee: "What's that, waking up early and...?"
Cassie: "Well, to be perfectly honest, spending time with you. Just kidding. No, it's the getting up early and me not being much of a breakfast person."
So the conversation continued on with Loralee pretty much convincing, well not wholly convincing me of the plan, but I said I would give it a shot. I knew she was trying to help me and she knows that after four years of living with me that I have tried and failed numerous attempts at weight loss. I just have no self-discipline. I thought the whole thing very sweet that she wanted to do that with me.
I figured we would start on Monday, (I always start things on Monday) but this morning I woke up late and heard Loralee cooking breakfast which I figured was just for her since we had talked about having breakfast around 6:30 or so when we start. So I start to get ready with doing my hair and makeup and then Loralee knocks on my door and tells me that she made breakfast for us! I was really running late though so I finished up my makeup and got out my clothes but noticed the skirt I had decided on needed to be ironed. Normally, I would just choose a different skirt but I hadn't worn this skirt for a while so I decided to just quickly iron it. I came out of my room and saw that Loralee had made up a plate for me of scrambled eggs, toast, and sliced strawberries and pears. So nice. I set up the ironing board and while the iron heated I started to eat the toast. I tried to eat and iron at the same time because like I said I was running really late. Loralee then jumped up and said "You sit down and eat and I'll iron this." "No, Loralee, you need to eat too." "Well, my stuff can be warmed up and you can eat yours on the way." This whole conversation happened as I stepped away from the ironing board and finished eating my toast. I joked about how I'm not a big protester of people wanting to do things for me. I really hate it when I offer something and people protest and protest to death. I'm very willing to accept help and Loralee is all about getting in her service quota. (I kid, she doesn't really have a quota, not that I know about anyway) But I really appreciated the whole thing. I got a good breakfast and a very nicely ironed skirt, which I quickly threw on once I finished eating and brushed my teeth and then I was out the door. So we'll see how this new thing plays out. I'm not gonna start working out again until, you guessed it, Monday!!

Cool. This is like a commercial break between Part 1 and 2. Roommates: isn't it about breakfast?
Cardine that's hilarious.
That's really sweet of Loralee to make you breakfast and iron your skirt. Really nice! It's also nie of her to want to help you with your weight loss goal. I've got to say that you're a better woman than me; I tend to get really ornery when people offer to help me lose weight (especially when it's my mom). I know in my mind that they want to help me, but I get defensive. So...you're a better woman than me. :)
Good luck with the plan. I hope it works fabulously!
Me, too. I put it on by myself, I should be able to take it off by myself. Not that I'm being very successful at it. I do think you are lucky to have Loralee for a roommate. She is a good friend.
