Next neurosis: Deshedding Hair

Ever since I was young I have loved to take hair off things. Well mostly my hair, not usuallly anyone else's unless it is just sitting on their back waiting to be plucked off. Haven't you ever been sitting behind someone and there is this loose piece of hair that is staticly glued to their shirt and haven't you wanted to take it off? The challenge is to do it without them noticing because if you don't know them how embarrassing is that? So I've been known to grab stray hair from time to time off people's back. I haven't quite mastered the them not noticing part unless a piece of the hair is suspended out in hair and you can keep your finger a relative distance from their back.

Also, most of my coats and some of my clothes love to collect my stray hairs. Lately I seem to be losing a lot and it all just sticks to my coat. I like to remove it because I think it looks gross but I kind of get enjoyment out of it. When I was young, and usually during church to pass the time I would just sit and go over my entire coat and and pick off every last hair I could find. When I was done I would be proud that my coat was clean but a little sad that there weren't any more hairs to pick off. I would usually go over it again just to make sure and once in a while a silent of feeling of joy would come over when I found a hair I had missed.

Wool coats are mostly the types that love to have hair all over them. I use to have this camel colored coat with wool trim and wool lining that always had tons of hair all over it. Sometimes at home I would set aside time to de-shed my coat. That coat gave me lots of pleasure throughout the years. Now I have my wool peacoat and though now I don't really sit down to de-shed it, but I think about it sometimes and try to get as much of the visible hairs off it as I can.

One other little thing that is also rare but gives me great joy when it happens is when a hair has somehow threaded its way through a piece of my clothing so when I pull it out I can feel the hair against my skin. The one's against the tummy are the best. Man I'm so weird. I wonder what other neurotic behavior I will unearth.

I have to say, this is pretty neurotic. I can't believe you didn't talk about this when you, me, and Julie were talking about neurotic behaviors. I felt like I was going on and on about the weird things I do, and you two couldn't really think of any! Glad you finally thought of one and I'm not the only crazy person :)

I like to pick hair off of people's shirts, too. I'm all about the public grooming. I also like those hair and dust roller thingies. And if I don't have one of those on hand, I like to roll up a piece of tape and go for it!

This is so funny!! The last paragraph made me laugh out loud. Aah.

Aly, I don't remember that conversation, but it sounds like one we'd have. I can't believe I didn't have much to say, because I think I have several good neurotic behaviors. :)

Aly, I think I remember saying that I'm sure I do have neurotic behaviors but none were coming to mind at the time. I'm sure it was really late so my mind wasn't at its best.

Julie: I had a lot of fun writing this post. I was laughing at myself several times hoping that others would find it funny too. Also thinking to myself "Am I really putting this out there on the internet for everyone to read!?!" Oh well.

Cardine: I love those lint roller thingies too but sometimes it takes the fun out of meticulously pulling each hair one by one.

I am laughing so hard. I had the same thought about you putting it all on the internet, but glad you did. Actually I don't remember ever seeing you do this. What else don't I know about you?

Personally, I think it's a great way to meet men. Only don't deshed a short-haired guy with long strands hanging on him. He's probably taken.

I can just imagine it:

You're standing in line at the water fountain and all you can see is a guy's blazer (do people still wear blazers?) that seriously needs deshedding (no long hairs - he's taken according to Framed). You start to work your magic, trying for subtle, but he notices. He turns around, discovers the most beautiful woman he's ever seen and... the rest is history.

Good luck!

I never would have thought of it as a way to meet men. Thanks Julie. I'll try that out sometime.

Hey, it was my idea.

I had a conversation at lunch yesterday about losing hair. My coworker said that taking prenatal vitamins helps you to not lose it so much. You could try that!

One of my teller pulled a hair off my shoulder and it reminded me of you. (sniff)

So glad you cleared up what deshedding meant. I wish you were around to take care of my 2 favorite sweatshirts that always have hair hanging on them.

I'm just glad to hear that you don't save all the little hairs and make a rug from them!
