Can I just say that I love the word conundrum. I try to use as often as I can. And usually as I say it I giggle a little in my head. There is another word for conundrum that I like too...what is it? Maybe it's just some other word that kind of sounds silly but isn't related to conundrum. Also, I think I use conundrum in the wrong way sometimes but people get the gist of what I am saying
Anyway, back to the subject at hand. One thing I have been thinking about lately, and only because my bad habit has been rearing its ugly head, is how it kind of sucks that you can't play an instrument and have long nails at the same time. You're thinking right now "Wow, that is really random." But that is because you don't know of my ever painful struggle with biting my nails. I have dealt with this problem since I was very little. It was bad. If there was any white nail showing it had to go. Sometimes I would bite them to the point of bleeding.
Lately I have gotten some control over this problem. Once in a while I will go crazy on one nail so they tend to vary in lengths. The key to not biting them is just as soon as it breaks or you feel a jagged edge, you file that sucker down until it is smooth again. That usually is what stops me from biting them, not always but mostly.
So now I have been playing the guitar and the piano and these are both instruments that you must have short nails for. It kind of makes me sad because finally I can let my nails grow out but then I can't. I really enjoy playing the instruments too, but I have never had the joy of having beautiful long nails. Or if I ever wanted to get acrylic nails, I can't do that either. Thus my conundrum. Knowing that my nails can be short for playing these instruments doesn't really help me overcome my habit, it acutally justifies it. Anyway, just bringing you all into my neurotic mind. Next time we'll talk about my enjoyment of deshedding hair off of things.

My nails are rarely the same length. I break them too much by my clumsiness.
I can't stand it if my nails aren't the same length. I usually ignore my nails until one of them breaks, then I have to cut them all off as soon as I can get to a pair of clippers.
Hmmm. Playing guitar = short nails. Again, I usually ignore my nails, so I'm a little concerned about having to maintain them (ie keeping them short) more than I already am. Sigh. The sacrifices one has to make!
Good luck with your bad habit, and with your guitar playing.
Hey Julie,
Did you buy your guitar yet?
I'm well aware of your nail-biting problems, but what is this deshedding hair thing??
Oooh, deathly hallows. . . can't wait.
No. I probably will wait a few weeks since I just found out that I have to buy new tires for my car. Actually, I only need the two front tires, but I still like to spread out my unexpected/nonessential spending. Especially since last night a couple friends and I booked a CRUISE!!!! Yeah!
How is your guitar playing coming? When are you and Aly coming down? When you do, bring your guitar so you can show it to me (and maybe play a little something).
That is a conundrum to be sure! I'm like your mother, though and want to hear about the deshedding hair thing. Is that really a word?
You are so funny. And cute!
