I watched a movie over the weekend that I had seen before. The 1956 version of Anastasia starring Yul Brynner and Ingrid Bergman. I thought in mind that this was a good movie. I love the story and Yul Brynner and Ingrid Bergman would make an interesting couple in the movie. They did, however, when they finally realize their love for each other, I was totally thwarted by the director. They get together off screen. It is only suggested at by other characters that they have run away together. Where was my end of movie kiss?! I was watching this with my friend and when the screen said "The End" I couldn't help but yell "What?! That's it!" Totally ruined the movie for me. There have been a few other films that have left me so unsatisfied. It doesn't matter if the whole rest of the movie is good, if I don't see the main couple kiss in the end to solidify that they would live happily ever after, well the movie is just ruined. ( there might be one exception, which is Pride & Prejudice. I can't remember if they kiss in the end or not)
As I look back on it I think I have only seen one movie where Yul Brynner kisses the female lead out of love and doesn't take it by force. He just really isn't known for playing the romeo, I guess. It would have been interesting though to see him try. I tried to play it out in my head a different way the story could have ended. It was a little difficult. Anyway, I will try to remember in the future not to watch that movie anymore.
Also, when a complete stranger interrupts my reading. I decided to eat lunch outside a week or so ago and read while doing so. A man walks up to me and asks the time, which is fine. I tell him and then he proceeds to tell me how he missed the train. I tell him another will be along in a few minutes. He didn't need to wait long. After each of my sentences I look down to continue reading my book. He continues to talk to me. Commenting on my food (Crown Burger) and how his bishop has taken him there sometimes. I give some polite acknowledgment but looking up now and them but making it pretty obvious that I want to read my book. Finally a train comes and he takes his leave. I don't know why things like this bother me so much. I'm just not comfortable talking to strangers, I guess.

I get annoyed when someone interrupts my reading, but I'm getting more patient. I realize some have a need to talk and I guess I can always read later. How old was this guy? Maybe he was interested in you.
Wouldn't you get bored if every movie ends with a kiss? That's getting predictable. I know you were disappointed with Moonstone because of a non-kiss and it was such a good movie. Jeez.
That was the other movie! I couldn't think of it. Nah, I can pretty much enjoy watching people having a good kiss all the time.
They do kiss at the end of Pride and Prejudice...when they are riding away in the coach.
I get irritated when people interrupt me doing homework. Well, not all the time, but I usually go to class early so I can work on my homework. It almost never fails that someone comes in (someone I don't know) and starts talking to me. I always try to continue doing my homework, but they don't seem to get the idea to stop talking!
I agree...if it's a love story, there should definitely be a kiss!!!!
I felt the same way when I watched this movie the first time. However, once I knew that it ended like that, subsequent viewings haven't been so annoying.
I agree, romantic movie = kissing at the end, or enough throughout to make up for the lack of at the end.
Hmmm. Being interrupted while reading...I think it depends on the circumstances - who's interrupting, what I'm reading, and my mood. Sometimes I'm okay with it, other times it's really annoying.
In Pride and Prejudice they get married and then kiss.
I can understand your frustration. I think that we have been trained to expect some sort of on-screen conclusion to relationships in movies.
So, I'm guessing you don't like Bollywood movies.
Yes, Julie, I completely agree that the rest of the movie has to make up for it. Actually just last night I watched a movie that I enjoy and there wasn't a kiss at the end. But there were other things that made me giddy.
