Don't Let the Craft Bug Bite!

It's too late for me, however. It has bitten and the venom is spreading through me. I'm sure it will eventually dilute but until then I must succumb to the illness. I would never have really called myself crafty (I wouldn't really call myself that now either). I guess I dabble and maybe that is what is happening now. I've made a couple quilts, cross-stitched, and even knitted, but now I am moving into sewing again. In fact, I just bought myself my very own sewing machine. It's nothing fancy. Though I have very specific projects in mind for specific purposes, there are dreams of other things I can make lurking in my mind and trying to figure out how to do it. I think it's blogging that has created this in me. I read so many blogs of women who are crafty and they are so inspiring. Why I think I could be the same as them, I'm not sure but I guess I am going to try for now. I've also become obsessed with fabric. I have spent so much money and time on fabrics it is crazy. They were all on sale. I have been to Joann's more times in the last month then in the last three years. I want to have a craft day with Alyson (well I kind of did except she did homework while sewed and we got obsessed with a show on the Discovery Channel called Dirty Jobs, it was fascinating). I also want to have a baking day where we just bake all kinds of stuff all day and then give it away. Do you think my inner homemaker is trying to come out even though I am not married nor have my own home? The full-time worker woman keeps her pretty stifled so only a few things are coming out, which is why my dinners have been on the fritz lately (with every intention of getting them back). Anyway, here are a couple of my creations.

I made this apron from a pattern. It turned out pretty cute as long as you don't look too close at the stitching. That rick rack and binding was tough.

This apron was made from a man's button up shirt that I bought at D.I.. I found a tutorial of how to make it so I did. It has a detachable bib. I think the next one will be better.

Oh I almost forgot to mention that I registered for a four session cake decorating class at Joann's. It starts tomorrow. I'm a little nervous and if I hadn't done it so spur of the moment I would have tried to get someone to join me but I knew if I didn't sign up while I was right there and then I wouldn't ever have. So I'll let you know how it goes.

Who is this? And what have you done with my Niece!?

Haha (laughing at Candleman's comment)! Glad to see you got the orange and blue apron done. It turned out really cute. I think we should definitely do a baking day. Maybe we should plan that for Dec. sometime so we can give away our baked goods to neighbors and friends.

I meant to say "for Christmas" at the end of that comment.

That green-men's-shirt apron is darling. I'm so impressed with you! I have not a speck of crafting ability or desire in my entire body. I just buy stuff. Like my apron. And decorated cakes. You're amazing!

I agree with Tonya - you are amazing!! I think both aprons turned out way cute. I think an apron is a great Christmas gift for a certain cousin you happen to know who happens to live in CC. Hint hint. :)

Wow. That's awesome! I've been hankering to cook, as well. And sew. And paint. And do anything artsy at all.

Both of the aprons are really cute, and I wish I could be up there to go to that cake decorating class with you. I almost took a class before, but then I didn't end up having time.

My head's spinning and I'm asking along with Candleman, "Who are you?!" I've been so impressed with your dinner parties. And now here you are adding all these new skills to your long list of good attributes. WOW!

If the building or demolition bug hits on one of these weekends, come on out and help us with our basement!

Love the aprons. Both are very cute. I thought it was a spark of genius to buy an old men's shirt and make that darling apron. When you make my Christmas gift you may need to get hold of 2 men's shirts!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.
Candleman: I'm sure I'll return to normal someday.

Aly: I only hope that I will still want to do it then. What if the illness has run it's course. but of course by then I can put my new decorating skills to work.

Tonya: You used to make stuff didn't you? I can at least remember those sweat pants that you made with the wide legs and cuffs at the bottom. Man those looked so comfortable, I still think about them sometimes and dream that they were mine.

Julie: You just might be a little psychic as the thought has entered my mind.

You made sweatpants????

The aprons are way cute, but I think You should make one of those long ones that go around the neck for your mom. She's really messy. Betty yet, count her as one of the friend to get baked goodies.

I love that you made them out of shirts! So cute and I would have loved to come with you to the cake decorating class...next time. But I do start hip hop next Tuesday.
