Winter Group Activity (Roller Girls!)

Lately I have seen the spread of a new activity that people do in groups. Now I think it is just a winter activity since it is so cold and people can't go outside at night to do things. This activity entails getting together to watch a sitcom and usually its a reality tv sitcom. There has been a few in my ward. One for the Bachelor, One for Ultimate Fighting Championship (mostly guys), and the one I subscribe to... Roller Girls.

When I first started going to watch this show I didn't know anything about it. All I knew was that the guy whom I had a crush on at the time was hosting this weekly event. (If the guy in question is reading this don't worry the crush is gone, now I think you are a really cool guy to be friends with.) Also, his roommates are really cool too and this was a way to branch out and make some new friends. I went without my normal group of friends because I tend to be drowned out in their company.

So the friendships were made even though my friends eventually started to join in the watching as well. So that was one key to keep me going but here is the other. Roller Girls is a freaking awesome show! You've got two teams of girls (the main ones featured at first were the Holy Rollers and the Hell Cats) and when they have a bout (match, game) they go around the rink trying to score points (i won't explain the details of the rules because its easier to explain when you watch) and almost always fights ensue. Girls pushing and shoving, being thrown over the rings and yes there are lots of bleeped out swear words and fuzzied birdy fingers.
But it is so cool to watch these girls fight it out. Then when they go back to their normal lives it is completely different. One of the hard core roller girls is an elementary school teacher. So the show goes between the activities of their normal lives and their roller girl lives. Now for a lot of them there isn't really that big of a line to cross from normal to roller girl.

I have not missed one episode even though sometimes we don't watch them until 11:00 at night and I have work the next morning, or one of my friends has hooked up with the guy I had a crush on and I have to watch them flirt. No I have been faithful to the bitter end. And so the boys have christened me the Roller Derby Queen and my roller girl name (if we were ever to start a team of our own) is Hollwood Hottie, but mostly everyone calls me Hollywood! There have been talks of actually going to Texas (where the show is filmed) and go to an actual TXRD Bout (TXRD stands for texas roller derby) and hopefully get to see all of our favorite roller girls. Mine are Miss Conduct and Sister Mary Jane and Chola. This is Miss Conduct!

If you want to check this show out it airs on A & E on Mondays at either 8:00 or 9:00 pm.

But maybe you can start your own sitcom watching group. Its a really fun way to get together and chat and make fun of stupid people on reality t.v.

Katie, my first impression, before reading the post, was that the sport of roller derby was the activity they were doing.

I've never even heard of this show, but I sometimes find myself insanely addicted to this reality TV show or that one. I think I better pass on this one because I really want to read my 50 books in one year, and extra TV won't help that. I'm hooked on Lost, but that's currently the only TV show I have to watch every week. I'm going to try to keep it that way.

I guess it's a good thing I forgot to call you last night. You were probably at your sitcom group having a blast. I would have only interrupted. What's the best time to call tonight?

anytime after five. I didn't actually go watch it last night because one of the guys is out of town on business and we are probably waiting until he gets back to watch it. I just wait until I get the text that its happening. So basically what I'm saying you can call me anytime tonight.

Also, I was wondering if on Saturday you and Julie (and is Kristi coming) want to go to Jordan's house since you haven't seen it yet? Then we could all go out to dinner or just ditch them once we've seen the house?

Oh yeah and by the way did you two not read the first paragraph or something. It clearly states that the activity is watching a sitcom.
Just giving you a hard time. I do because I love..

My sitcom-watching gathering is for LOST. We have to tape it and watch it usually late at night, too.

I love LOST. It is a great show. I don't think anyone I know up here watches that though so I don't get to discuss it much.

I think it would be fun to see Jordan's house (and Jordan and Stacy, of course). In fact, I would LOVE to go to that Italian place we went to in December (the one I made a big stink about but ended up loving). Really, I have NO agenda for this trip except to hang out with you guys. I'm SOOOOO excited!

I know. We were such babies. I wouldn't mind eating there again. It was really good.

I really like Johnny Carinos, but I was hoping that maybe we could eat at Olive Garden. I've been craving the Chicken Castalino. I guess I don't HAVE to eat there, I was just hoping maybe... but I'm sure we don't want to eat Italian twice in one weekend.

Wow, a party this weekend? Can I come? Just kidding. Cassie, I can't believe you are addicted to another TV show. And it's not even Gray's Anatomy. Are you crazy? It is clearly the best show on TV right now. I've been watching the third season of Northern Exposure (24 episodes) and so far I haven't seen any of them. Where was I during the third season? It's a mystery or my memory is worse than I thought.

Oooh you bought that? I'm gonna have to borrow it or come home and have a marathon. Mom I will rent Grey's anatomy. And I wouldn't say I was addicted to the show. I'm addicted to hanging out with my friends while watching this show. It wouldn't be as fun to watch without them. Besides I'm down to 6 shows. That's pretty good and its been really hard because it looks like there are some good shows out there but I refuse.

Aly, I'll go with you to Olive Garden on Friday night for dinner if we don't wait for Julie unless that's what we are doing. Then we can go to Johnny Corrinos the next day. I don't mind eating italian twice in a row. I eat mexican twice in a row all the time.

I don't mind eating Italian twice in a row either, but let's make sure that Julie doesn't want to eat at Olive Garden either. I remember she wanted to eat there as well last time we were in SLC.

Wow, you're down six shows? That's pretty good. I hardly watch any TV anymore, but I remember when I had something I wanted to watch at least every night of the week. I used to think, I don't know how I would ever be able to watch no TV. Now, I just don't pay attention to what else is on, that way I don't "miss" it.

I can't say this enough; I really don't care what we do, where we eat, etc. It's fine if you go to OG without me, but I would like to meet you guys somewhere cuz I don't remember how to get to Cassie's house. I'll call you when I get to point of the mountain and we can choose a meeting place.

Anyone want to see V for Vendetta?

Sure, I really don't know what it's about, but I'm up for a movie. My mom suggested that we visit the city library. She was very impressed by it, and thought we might like it. I am with Julie though, I really don't care what we do, just making a suggestion.
